It’s no secret that we here at 12hrs have a love for all things Scandinavian. We’re of course not alone in this, mind you. In recent years, Scandi design and food has spread all over the globe and found new admirers. London is no exception to that. But until now, the most successful nordic restaurants in the city featured Swedish cuisine. That might change now with the opening of Snaps & Rye.

Located in the north of Notting Hill, this deli serves you amazing Danish cuisine at absolutely reasonable prices. The star of the menu are the different kinds of Smørrebrød, those open-faced sandwiches we have been raving about over and over (here, for example). These come with a variety of toppings like flash-fried smoked eel, salmon or meatballs and are served on homemade rye bread. Along with the food, expect a great selection of Danish beers and Snaps, and for dessert, order Æblekage, a layered speciality of applesauce and cream that deserves to be discovered by more people.

For breakfast, Snaps & Rye offers different Danish pastries, among them Spandauer and Tebirkes. Do yourself a favor and order some Cocio chocolate milk to go along with it.

The deli itself has that typically Nordic, minimalistic interior design that we all love so much. There’s also a shop where you can buy Danish favorites like Lakrids, some pretty homeware and cookbooks.
