A lot of destinations are high up on our ever-growing travel wish list, but one place in particular has crept up the charts lately: Belize. Located in Central America, bordering Mexico to the north and Guatemala to the east, it sits at a prime spot at the Caribbean sea. Belize is the only Latin American country whose official language is English. Yet, it’s not overrun by tourists yet.
On the contrary, the country has been able to keep global corporations out and has instead been focussing on developments that stay true to the local style and highlight the beauty of the nature surrounding it. And with Belize being the least densely populated country in Central America, there is plenty of that to discover.
There are Mayan ruins and canopied jungles inside the country, and lagoons and picturesque beaches at the coast. It’s there between a lagoon and the sea in the town of Placencia that the Itz’ana Resort & Residences will be located.
The sister resort to popular hotel Ka’ana was conceived as a home away from home, boasting everything a tropical dream destination could offer. At its heart will be The Great House, which will house the main restaurant. There’ll be a beautiful bar called The Rum Room, a yoga and sun deck, a spa, a marina and even a private island club.
Before the restaurant officially opens its doors, you can already get a taste of the excellent ‘reef-to-refurbished-table’ cooking at the resorts’ pop-up restaurant, Limilita. Food is served right at the beach, so you need to book a table in advance.
The residences at Itz’ana Resort & Residences will range from 1-bedroom cottages to 5-bedroom villas, located either on the lagoon or the beach, with 21 villas and 18 cottages in total. Boston-based architect Roberto de Oliveira Castro, a native of the region, used traditional forms and materials to deliver a modern take on Belize’s British colonial past. Itz’ana Resort & Residences vary in size with prices ranging from $225,000 - $890,000. All of them boast beautiful views and are fully furnished with the Itz’ana Home by Samuel Amoia collection.
This line of beautiful furniture was originally created for the Itz’ana Resort & Residences, but has since gone into production and is available to buy online. The pieces take inspiration from Belize itself, highlighting local craftsmanship (they are handcrafted in Central America) and materials, and are a great way of bringing a piece of tropical Belize home. Expect lots of wood carvings, light colors and natural materials in modern, pared down shapes. To shop the collection, click here.
Itz’ana Resort & Residences is due to open in late 2016.
